ST. GEORGE — The man who was killed after sideswiping a car and colliding head-on with a Washington County work truck on state Route 18 Thursday has been identified.
The driver of the S-10 pickup was identified by St. George Police Sgt. Sam Despain as Mitchell Jones, 31, of Modena.
An autopsy is planned for next week in Salt Lake City to determine whether Jones was impaired, Despain said.
Jones’ S-10 pickup struck a car near The Ledges of St. George as he was driving south on SR-18 about 8:30 a.m. Thursday. Jones continued speeding down the road, crossing the center line at mile marker 6 and colliding with the county truck. The driver of the truck was taken to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George with minor injuries.
This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
