CEDAR CITY – A Cedar City man was arrested for child sex crimes Oct. 8 after the 6-year-old girl he had been tending told authorities that he had touched her in the tub and shown her porn videos while babysitting.
Brady Lyn Carson, 23, was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated sex abuse of a child, a first-degree felony; and one third-degree felony count of dealing harmful materials to a minor, according to an indictment information form filed by the Iron County Attorney’s Office.
The Cedar City Police Department was alerted to the potential abuse by Child Protective Services sparking an investigation, according to a probable cause statement filed in support of Carson’s arrest.
A forensic investigation was done at the Iron County Children’s Justice Center Oct. 8, the statement said. “Brady shows her his naked pictures,” the young girl had previously told investigators. The child also told police that Carson played with her when she was in the bathtub.
Carson was taken to the police station for an on-camera interview in which he agreed to speak candidly with officers after waiving his Miranda rights that were read to him upon arrival, according to the statement.
During the interview he informed investigators that on Sept. 4 he took advantage of the girl while giving her a bath, according to the statement, describing how he touched her breast and genital areas.
“He said he apologized to Child #1 for his actions before she exited the Bathtub (sic),” according to the statement.
When asked about the pornography, Carson told police that he watched pornographic videos with her on his phone on two separate occasions – once inside the home and once while sitting on the back porch of the house at which he was watching her, the statement said.
Carson appeared in 5th District Court in Cedar City for his initial appearance Wednesday. He was declared indigent and assigned a public defender to assist him in his case, according to court documents. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Oct. 21 at 9:30 a.m. at the District Court Building, 40 N. 100 East, Cedar City.
As of 1 p.m., Thursday, Carson was still in the custody of the Iron County Jail. Bail is set at $100,000 bondable.
Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
