IVINS — Imagine experiencing the coral and linen swaths of Snow Canyon color under the light of an almost full and very large harvest moon. Think of heaven’s palette reflected on Earth. And now picture yourself strolling through the midst of it on a warm autumn night.

Snow Canyon State Park is inviting participants to join park staff for this ethereal experience Saturday at 7:30 p.m. The group will make a 2-mile round-trip moonlit stroll through the park. Temperatures are forecast to be in the low 70s, comfortable for an evening hike.

The event is free but space is limited.  Register within two days of the hike in person at the park, 1002 N. Snow Canyon Road in Ivins, or by telephoning 435-628-2255.

Moonlit hikes will be offered twice again in October, minus September’s rare burgeoning supermoon.

“Seeing the canyon by moon glow is the best part of this hike and is what draws visitors,” Park Manager Kristen Comella said. “There isn’t enough time or space to tell you all of my favorite things about the canyon and what makes it so special!”

There are many park events available to the public during the fall and winter, to name a few: Learn about raven intelligence on Oct. 2 and the area’s archaeology on Oct. 9 at the park’s evening presentations; search for scorpions at night on Oct. 16 and learn about gila monsters in the morning on Halloween; hike under the north star Nov. 2 and start your day with a Snow Canyon sunrise Nov. 14.

To see a full schedule of the park’s offerings with descriptions, see the park’s event Web page.

Events are free but space is limited and registration is required.
