ST. GEORGE — A mother and child were transported by ambulance to the hospital after a collision on Sunset Boulevard in St. George Friday afternoon.
A red Chevrolet Monte Carlo was traveling westbound on Sunset Boulevard in the outside lane, St. George police officer Tyrell Bangerter said, and was stopped at the light at North Dixie Downs Road. When the light turned green, the driver started through the intersection and was hit by an eastbound Dodge Neon that was turning left.
Bangerter said the driver of the Neon was a new driver with a learner’s permit. The driver of the Neon told police she thought the licensed driver in the passenger seat had told her to go, while the passenger had said “get ready to go,” Bangerter said.
A detective happened to be in the immediate area and was on scene within a minute of the accident, Bangerter said.
The driver of the Monte Carlo suffered minor facial injuries, Bangerter said, and was treated and released at the scene.
The Neon had several children in it, Bangerter said. The mother and one of her children were transported by ambulance to Dixie Regional Medical Center with minor injuries.
A citation was issued to the driver of the Neon for failure to yield on a left turn, Bangerter said.
Units from the St. George Police Department, St. George Fire Department and Gold Cross Ambulance were called to the scene. Traffic was slowed for about 30 minutes while the cars were cleared from the intersection.
This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.

what’s than you say? yellow means speed up? and red means floor it?
Well better redo that open book test eh.?
How about defensive driving test. Just because a light turns green doesn’t mean there’s not some idiot running a red light. Look around before you go on the green.
