Around 11 a.m., a silver minivan westbound on state Route 9 crested the hill coming into Virgin Town and failed to see a blue pickup truck stopped in the road waiting to make a turn, said police officer Jared Barker, with the Springdale/Zion Canyon Department of Public Safety.

The minivan couldn’t stop in time and ran into the back of the pickup truck, destroying the front end of the van. The truck suffered moderate damage, but was able to be driven from the scene.

Only minor injuries were reported, Barker said, and no one was transported to the hospital. All occupants were wearing their seat belts.

Virgin is located about 20 miles west of Zion National Park. Traffic was slowed to one lane on SR-9 for approximately 45 minutes while the wreckage was cleared.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement at the scene and may not contain the full scope of findings.

Uh, no. It wasn’t the minivan that failed to see the truck. It was the driver.

Stopping in the middle of the road to do left turns on these high-speed two lane road really is a death trap, and it’s amazing it doesn’t happen more often. Sometimes I’ll pull off the road to the right side and wait for both lanes to clear before turning left. Sitting stopped in the lane of a 65mph highway doesn’t feel safe at all

But besides all that the van driver should put her phone away and watch the road

      Would not be surprised.

It’s not safe to text and load a crack pipe and suck down a cold beer while driving. LOL.!
