HILDALE – A water boiling advisory has been issued for the cities of Hildale and neighboring Colorado City, Arizona, Tuesday night due to damage to the local water system caused by recent flooding.
Water samples will be taken Wednesday, according to information from Washington County Emergency Services, and results will take 24 hours.
A “boil water” advisory is a preventative notification issued by public utilities. These advisories are distributed if there is actual or strong possibility of contamination in the drinking water system that could make residents sick, according to a statement from WCES.
For community members under such an advisory, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends bringing water to a rolling boil for one minute before it is consumed in order to kill protozoa, bacteria and viruses, the statement said.
“At altitudes above 2,000 meters, boiling should be extended to 3 minutes, as the lower boiling point at high altitudes requires more time to kill such organisms,” the statement said.
