Teenagers out for a morning spin, total Corvette

HURRICANE — Two 16-year-olds out for a drive in a 1999 white Corvette Saturday morning ended up almost upside down, reaching speeds too fast for the road and nearly flipping the car.

Just after 8:30 a.m. the teens were speeding on Dixie Springs Drive in Hurricane, Hurricane City Police Sgt. Brandon Buell said. The driver lost control when he approached an S-curve, hit the curb, and continued up an embankment. The car tipped onto the passenger side then righted itself back onto the tires.

The teens then walked away from the wrecked car and left the scene.

“Officers responded,” Buell said, “they were able to locate the two juveniles, and they were cooperative with the investigation.”

Based on witness statements, interviews and information, Buell said, police believe the teens were driving east on Dixie Springs Drive at a high rate of speed over the posted 35 mph limit.

While the teens had only minor injuries and refused transport to the hospital, Buell said, the Corvette did not fare so well.  The car, which had a temporary license tag and belonged to the teen’s parents, he said, sustained major damage and will probably be totaled.

The teen driver was cited for reckless driving and leaving the scene of a crash, Buell said. Both teens were released to their parents.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement and may not contain the full scope of findings.

Never let teenagers drive sports cars….teenagers are reckless! Come on, I wasn’t the only reckless teenager 😉 of course I’ve noticed parents in this town have ” let the kids do whatever they want” mentality, they dont teach their kids, they dont watch them, they dont correct them, they dont discipline them, they don’t teach them accountability, just go church every Sunday and everything is fine mentality….so daddy will probably buy the teenager a brand new car.

Of course this assumes they had the parents permission to drive the car. Wonder what insurance would run on that for a teenage driver? Glad the kids weren’t hurt, but I hope the parents do a bit of arse kicking here!

You’re right! I did assume they had permission. If they didn’t have permission, thats some grand theft auto stuff right there 🙂

I happen to be very close to the driver of the crashed Corvette and happen to know that this article is full of crap.
The posted speed limit is not 35 mph, it is 45, and they did not refuse to be transport[ed] to the hospital”, the paramedics told them they did not need to be hospitalized.
They left the scene because the y did not have phones. The drivers house was about a 1 minute walk from the scene, so he walked home and told his mom, fully intending to return to the crash site.
And, of course his parents will not buy him a new car! They have their kids pay for everything, from gas to cars, to college and more.
I hope this enlightens you more correctly about this article 🙂
    Thanks.

Good that the teenagers did not get seriously injured.
