ST. GEORGE – The 29-year-old daughter of author and anti-polygamy activist Kristyn Decker has been found and is resting comfortably in a Salt Lake City area hospital.
Briell Decker disappeared from her home in Holladay late Saturday night, leaving behind her phone, keys, purse, wallet and car. Her mother said she was notified Tuesday morning by a police officer that her daughter had been found after having been admitted to a hospital.
“I haven’t seen her yet,” Kristyn Decker said. “They will call me later and tell me when I can see her. They said it will be five or six more days before she is ready to talk to anybody, so I’m waiting to talk to the doctor.
Kristyn Decker said her daughter had recently changed medications prescribed for bipolar disorder, adding that she believed she either stopped taking them or they aren’t working correctly.
“I am just so grateful that she has been found safely,” she said. “Today is a much better day.”
Police, family and friends were mobilized when a photo of the missing woman was distributed via social media.
Kristyn Decker said she had reason to believe her daughter was in a hospital late Monday night, but information was sketchy and she could not confirm her daughter’s whereabouts.
“I would like to thank everyone and tell them how much gratitude I have for everybody who cared and helped and sent out messages,” Kristyn Decker said.
Kristyn Decker, who was raised in a polygamous community in northern Utah, is the author of the book “Fifty Years In Polygamy: Big Secrets and Little White Lies.”
She is also an activist helping those who wish to leave the polygamous lifestyle, founding the Sound Choices Coalition, a nonprofit organization, according to the group’s website, “dedicated to raising awareness and working to end the damaging practices associated with polygamous cultures.”
