SPRINGVILLE — Dixie took its licks Friday night against an experienced, upperclassmen-laden Springville team in a 35-21 loss on the road.
The Flyers took the early lead when all-state performer Tre Miller showed his deadly speed, scoring on an 80-yard run. Springville would score the next two touchdowns. However Dixie went into the break tied at 14-14 when Hobbs Nyberg scored from 6 yards out.
The Red Devils would score consecutive touchdowns again coming out of halftime. Dixie cut Springville’s lead to seven on Miller’s second score of the night, this time from 7-yards out. The Flyers would not put up any more points however. Springville added an insurance score in the fourth to put them at the final margin, 35-21.
Miller rushed for 133 yards in the game and Bret Barben caught passes worth more than 100 yards, but Dixie couldn’t put together any sustained momentum after halftime.
Dixie hosts Mohave, Ariz. next Friday.
