ST. GEORGE — Kobe Topalian scored on a 25-yard TD run in the second overtime as Pine View defeated Judge Memorial 30-24 Friday night in the first game of the season of high school football.
Tyler Heaton partially blocked what would have been the winning field goal in the first overtime, then the Panthers defense forced a fumble on Judge’s possession in the second extra period, setting up Pine View to win the game with any points.
“I figured Kobe would run for a 10 or 15 yards, we would kick a field goal and win the game,” Panthers coach Ray Hosner said. “But it never came to that.”
Topalian broke a tackle at the line of scrimmage, then cut right to open field and rushed nearly untouched the rest of the way, prompting a celebratory dogpile in the end zone by the Panther players and fans.
PV had led 24-0 before Judge mounted a comeback.
