MMA competitors make their mark, ‘Mayhem’ Mesquite

MESQUITE, Nev. — It’s time for another round in the ring, or cage as it were, as the CasaBlanca Events Center at the CasaBlanca Resort and Casino, 950 W. Mesquite Boulevard, Mesquite hosts Tuff-N-Uff’s “Mayhem in Mesquite VII,” an amateur mixed martial arts competition that will see some of the best amateur fighters in the West take to the cage Saturday, 7 p.m. PDT, 8 p.m. MDT.

Billed as the “future stars of MMA” these amateur fighters hail from California, Colorado, Nevada and Utah. The event promoter Tuff-N-Uff is, Mesquite Gaming Director of Player Development Ely Prussin said, one of the best in the country for amateur fighters.

“A lot of their fighters have gone on to fight professionally,” Prussin said, adding that female fighter Ronda Rousey fought in Tuff-N-Uff competitions before turning pro.

Saturday’s event will feature between 10-15 fights, female and male, Prussin said, in a venue that lets the audience get up close and personal to the action.

In addition to the fights, a whole slew of activities centered around the main event have been planned at the casino for the weekend, including competitor weigh-ins, a ring girl competition, free concerts, pre- and post- fight parties and more. It all kicks off Friday.

Weigh-ins

Weigh-ins will begin Friday at 6 p.m. (doors open at 5:30 p.m.) in the CasaBlanca showroom. This event is free and open to all ages. Come check out the intensity of the fighters as they weigh in and size up their competition.

Ring girl competition and concert

“Rebel Soul” will rock the showroom stage Friday at 8 p.m. in a free concert hosted by Southern Utah’s KZHK 95.9 “The Hawk.” In between sets, 10 beautiful ladies will strut their stuff in hopes of being chosen as one of the three ring girls for Saturday’s competition.
