SALT LAKE CITY — Gov. Gary R. Herbert announced Monday he has signed the official letter to appoint Derrin Owens to the Utah House of Representatives. Owens will serve in District 58 to replace Jon Cox who resigned in July to become the governor’s communications director.
“Derrin brings a unique perspective to the legislature having spent his entire career in public education,” Herbert said. “His experience as a teacher, school counselor and rancher have prepared him to effectively serve the people of Sanpete and Juab counties. I am confident that in his new legislative role, he will continue to be a strong voice for Utah’s rural communities.”
Owens is a counselor at Juab High School and a resident of Fountain Green.
“It was an honor for my family and I to meet with Governor Herbert today,” Owens said. “I am anxious to contribute all I can as a member of the House of Representatives.”
