MOAB — The Bureau of Land Management Moab Field Office is seeking public comment on an environmental assessment analyzing the potential impacts associated with the Lisbon Valley Mining Company LLC proposal to backfill the Centennial Pit at its Lisbon Valley Mine in San Juan County.
The proposed project would create no new surface disturbance by using mined materials to backfill portions of the open pit, the BLM notification states. The proposed project would also reduce truck traffic, emissions, and fugitive dust and improve visual resources in the area.
The 30-day public comment period on the environmental assessment closes Aug. 31. Additional information about the proposed project is included in the assessment, which is available for review and public comment on the BLM Moab website under the project name “Centennial Pit Backfill Mine Plan Modification.” Hard copies are also available at the BLM Moab Field Office, 82 E. Dogwood, Moab.
Written comments will be accepted by letter or email until Aug. 31. Please note that the most useful comments are those that identify issues relevant to the assessment or contain new technical or scientific information. Comments on the assessment should be as specific as possible with references to page numbers and chapters of the document.
Comments which contain only opinions or preferences will not receive a formal response, but may be considered in the BLM decision making process. Please reference “Centennial Pit Backfill” when submitting comments.
