Early primary voting guide for cities in Iron, Kane, Washington counties

SOUTHERN UTAH — Early voting has begun for the 2015 primary elections in municipal races across the state, beginning Tuesday and continuing through Aug. 7. The primary election will be Aug. 11.

During the primary election, candidates vying for city council or mayoral positions will, generally, be reduced to two contenders per seat and ultimately move on to the general elections, held Nov. 3.

Below are the cities in Southern Utah that are holding early primary voting, with listed times and locations. Voter identification is required to participate.

Unless otherwise noted, cities holding primary elections will conduct voting at their respective city offices Aug. 11.

Washington County

Hurricane City

Early primary voting is being held at the Hurricane City Offices, 147 N. 870 West, Hurricane, and will be open:

  • July 28-31 | Tuesday through Thursday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.; closed between 1-1:30 p.m. for lunch. Friday, the city office is open 8 a.m.-3 p.m., also closed 1-1:30 p.m. for lunch.
  • Aug. 3-7 | Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.; closed between 1-1:30 p.m. for lunch. Friday, the city office is open 8 a.m.-3 p.m., also closed 1-1:30 p.m. for lunch.

Candidates running for the three open Hurricane City Council seats are:

  • Ginger Hall, Tony Hoyt, Pam Humphries, Jason Smith, Sean Reddish, Cheryl S. Reeve, Kevin D. Thomas

Note: Voting for the Aug. 11 primary election will be held at the Hurricane Community Center, located at 92 S. 100 West.

St. George

Early primary voting is being held at the St. George City Office, 175 E. 200 North, St. George, and will be open:

  • July 28-31 | Tuesday though Friday, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
  • Aug. 3-7 | Monday through Friday, 1-5 p.m.

Candidates running for the three open St. George City Council seats are:

  • Jimmie B. Hughes, Bette O. Arial, Gregg McArthur, Craig N. Hammer, Eric Hovland, Michelene Perez, Marc Stallings, Bryan Thiriot, Lane Ronnow, Kendall Clements, Ed Baca

Washington City

Early primary voting is being held at the Washington City Office, 111 N. 100 East, Washington City, and will be open:

  • July 28-29 | Tuesday and Wednesday, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
  • July 30-31 | Thursday and Friday, 1-5 p.m.
  • Aug. 4-5 | Tuesday and Wednesday, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
  • Aug. 6-7 | Thursday and Friday, 1-5 p.m.

Candidates running for the three open Washington City Council seats are:

  • James McFadden, C. Bradford Allen, Jean Arbuckle, Bill Hudson, Patricia Robbins, Dan Drown, Jeff Turek, Kolene F. Granger, Troy Garth Belliston

Iron County

Enoch City

Early primary voting in Enoch is being done through absentee ballots. Residents can pick up a ballot at the Enoch City Office, located at 900 E. Midvalley Road. The city office is open Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m., and Friday from 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

Candidates running for mayor are:

  • Steven M. Clarke, Geoffrey L. Chesnut, Worth H. Grimshaw

Candidates running for the three open Enoch City Council seats are:

  • David D. Harris, Scott Leavitt, Shawn Stoor, Cassie Easley, Rich Lile, Debra Andrejcik Ley, William Roach, Brent Taylor, David F. Owens, Wayne Grimshaw

Kane County

Kanab

Early primary voting is being held at the Kanab City Office, 76 N. Main St., Kanab, and will be open:

  • July 28-31 | Tuesday though Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
  • Aug. 3-7 | Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

Candidates running for the three open Kanab City Council seats are:

  • Allen Gilberg, Robert Brissette, Jeff Yates, Michael R. East, John Jacob, Joe B. Wright, Patty Hegwood
