ST.GEORGE — St. George Police cited a man after he rolled an SUV Saturday afternoon and the vehicle landed in the yard of a home.

The incident occurred just before 4 p.m. at the intersection of Canyon View Drive and Phoenix Drive in St. George.

A man in his late 20s was driving a green Ford Explorer with a female passenger in the vehicle, also in her late 20s.

As the man was driving down Canyon View Drive onto Phoenix Drive, he took a curve too fast, hit the curb and gutter and rolled the SUV, St. George Police Sgt. Dave Williams said.

As it rolled, the Explorer clipped the back of a silver Ford Expedition that was in a driveway. The Explorer finally landed on its hood in the front yard of a house.

The driver was able to get out of the vehicle, Williams said, and once he got out, he ran over to the other side of the SUV to break the passenger window and help the woman out.

The man had some scratches but refused ambulance transport to the hospital. The woman was complaining of neck and head injuries and had some cuts that were “just this side of minor,” Williams said. She was transported by Gold Cross ambulance to the hospital with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening.

It appears she’s going to be OK,” Williams said.

Williams said both the driver and passenger were wearing seat belts.

Officers conducted a field sobriety test, and the driver did not show any signs of impairment, he said.

The driver was cited for unsafe lane travel and driving without a valid driver’s license.

The Explorer was totaled, Williams said, and had to be towed from the scene.

There was minor damage to the Expedition, and the front lawn of the house where the SUV landed had a section gouged out of it, Williams said.

In addition to St. George Police and Gold Cross, the St. George Fire Department also responded to the scene of the rollover.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.

So you can roll an SUV into someone’s front yard and all you get cited for is unsafe lane travel?! Doesn’t that level of unsafe driving deserve a citation that at the very least results in a suspended license?! Oh that’s right he didn’t have one! If this is legit what the …* kind of freak show are they running here?! Ridiculous! If the idiot would’ve killed someone I guess he’d get a fundraiser?…
    Ed. ellipsis …*

Why do people without driver’s licenses think it’s okay to drive like an idiot? You would think they would be super cautious so they wouldn’t get caught. Duh.
