ST. GEORGE — Lunch was interrupted for diners at Taco Bell on St. George Boulevard Friday afternoon when a car ran into the building, leaving a large hole underneath one of the windows.
Just after 2 p.m., a woman was parking a car in a handicapped space at the restaurant, St. George Police Officer Tyrell Bangerter said.
“She mistook the gas for the brake, jumped the little concrete stopper and ran into the building,” Bangerter said.
The car punched a large hole through the exterior wall, penetrating all the way through into the restaurant’s dining room. The inside area was roped off, and plaster and wood chips where scattered throughout the area.
Taco Bell employees and the on-duty manager declined to comment regarding the incident. Restaurant staff worked to clean up the debris.
No injuries were reported as a result of the collision.
The car was towed from the scene.
Personnel from the St. George Police Department, St. George Fire Department and Gold Cross Ambulance responded to the incident.
This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
