WASHINGTON CITY — In response to a comment made last year, members of American Legion Post 912 met Saturday morning to place American flags on the graves of veterans buried in the Washington City cemetery.

Post Commander Calvin Fox was out early with his family and was joined by other veterans and family members to place the flags.

“Last year we had several veterans come up and tell me how disappointed they were that there weren’t flags on the graves,” Fox said.

The post held fundraisers throughout the year and was able to purchase flags that were distributed Saturday morning throughout the graveyard on all graves belonging to veterans.

Fox said the post will hold a Memorial Day service in Veteran’s Park at 75 E. Telegraph Road in Washington City at 10 a.m., Monday. The featured speaker will be Washington City Mayor Ken Neilson. All are welcome.
