ST. GEORGE – Traffic at the intersection of St. George Boulevard and Main Street in St. George was impeded by a three-vehicle collision Tuesday afternoon.
The 19-year-old driver of a Jeep Wrangler was traveling westbound on St. George Boulevard, St. George Police Sgt. Spencer Holmes said, when “he became distracted by something in the vehicle.”
“He looked down, and when he looked up, he hit the car in front of him,” Holmes said.
The driver of the Wrangler failed to notice traffic ahead of him was slowing and crashed into the back of a Ford Edge SUV, pushing it into the back of a Ford Expedition.
Police and other responders were dispatched to the scene at about 2:45 p.m. Police blocked off one of the westbound lanes as they tended to the accident. Cars were diverted through the partially blocked intersection.
Holmes said two women, one a passenger from the Ford Edge and the other the driver of the Ford Expedition, were transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center for neck and back pain. Both women appeared to be in their 40s, he said.
The driver of the Jeep Wrangler was cited for following too closely. He was uninjured.
All parties are believed to have been wearing their seat belts at the time of the accident, Holmes said.
The Jeep Wrangler and Ford Expedition remained drivable, while the Ford Edge had to be towed from the scene.
