The accident occurred around 8:30 p.m. at the intersection of 150 North and Riverside Drive/3050 East in front of the The Palms of St. George RV resort.

The man was driving a gold Lincoln MKZ sedan on 150 North, making a left-hand turn onto Riverside Drive/3050 East when his car was hit by an oncoming black Mercury Mountaineer SUV.

The man was cited for failure to yield to oncoming traffic, St. George Police Sgt. Sam Despain said.

Despain described the man driving the Lincoln as an elderly man and said he suffered minor injuries.

Firefighters had to use equipment to free the man from the Lincoln as the impact was severe enough to bend in the door frame. The man was transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George by Gold Cross Ambulance.

A juvenile girl was driving the Mercury, Despain said, and she was not injured.

Both vehicles were damaged and had to be towed from the scene.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
