MOHAVE COUNTY, Arizona – The public’s help is being sought in locating a man wanted out of Phoenix, Arizona, for alleged aggravated kidnapping and sexual assault.
Early Saturday morning, Arnulfo Ruiz Delatorre, 39, of Phoenix, Arizona, allegedly threatened his ex-girlfriend with a knife and forced her into his car in the Phoenix, Arizona, area, according to a press release from the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office. Delatorre then allegedly drove her to his house and sexually assaulted her.
“Delatorre forced the victim to get back in the car and told her they were going to Las Vegas,” the press release said. “The victim tried to escape somewhere in Yavapai County but was unsuccessful.”
As the two were traveling, they ran out of gas about 20 miles east of Kingman, Arizona, the statement said. Delatorre and the alleged victim got a ride from a truck driver to Love’s Travel Stop, east of Kingman.
“Delatorre threatened the victim that if she called the cops he would return to Phoenix and kill her kids and grandkids,” the statement said. “Delatorre broke the victim’s phone.”
While the alleged victim, a Hispanic woman, was in the restroom at Love’s Travel Center, she wrote a note on a small piece of paper that said “Please help me. Call the Police” and handed it to another woman in the restroom, the press release said. The woman who received the note called 911 on her cellphone.
A Hispanic man, determined to be Delatorre through an investigation conducted by the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office, was waiting outside the bathroom and called for the Hispanic woman to come out, the statement said, but he left when he found out the police had been called.
At about 1:23 p.m. Saturday, Mohave County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the travel stop. The alleged victim was transported to Kingman Regional Medical Center with minor injuries, according to the statement.
Delatorre’s vehicle was located and towed away. The Phoenix Police Department has been contacted and the victim’s children and grandchildren have been notified about the incident, the statement said.
Anyone with any information regarding Delatorre’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office at 928-753-0753 or Silent Witness at 928-753-1234.
Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
