MESQUITE, Nevada – Investigators from the Mesquite Police Department have responded to and are actively investigating 30 residential burglaries that occurred over the past five months.
These represent an 82 percent increase in residential burglaries over those that occurred in the prior five-month period, Mesquite Police Officer Quinn Averett said.
There is a higher concentration of burglaries in certain areas of the city, he said, but police are reserving public identification of those areas in light of the department’s ongoing investigation.
“We are actively speaking with communities and neighborhood watches and so forth,” Averett said, “and sharing information with them.”
The Mesquite Police Department issued a statement on its Facebook Thursday reminding residents of the City of Mesquite to take extra precautions around their homes, to help keep their neighborhoods from becoming easy targets of burglars.
The Police Department recommended the following best deterrents to would-be burglars:
- Keep homes and vehicles locked.
- Secure windows and sliding glass doors with after-market locking mechanisms. Sliding glass doors and windows come with built-in locking mechanisms that are easily defeated, Averett said. These can be replaced with all sorts of locking devices that can be purchased at a hardware store. Or, placing something like PVC pipe or a broom handle in the inside track of the slider to prevent it from opening will also improve the security of those doors and windows.
- Make sure homes have good exterior lighting or motion sensitive lighting in both the front and back of the homes.
- If possible, an alarm system and/or video surveillance will assist in keeping your home from being burglarized.
- Notify trusted neighbors and leave contact information with them when planning on being away for extended periods of time.
The department is reaching out to the public to notify them and to ask anyone with any information on any suspicious activity, even something or someone they might not otherwise have thought to bring to the police’s attention, to please share it with the police, Averett said.
“It’s a very active investigation,” he said.

How much do you want to bet that most of these burglaries trace back to just a handful of individuals and a single activity: drugs. But remember kids, liberals say drugs are good for you. Mesquites problem may be solved with one armed homeowner… burglars beware.

Mesquite is physically a large town and we all know it’s full of crime…..”somewhere”.
Pardon me for quoting the report itself, laytonian, but I did inquire and addressed this and here is the answer reported:

The report goes on to indicate that the Police Department is meeting with certain communities and neighborhood watches as the investigation continues.
