Opinion: Little progress in US race relations

OPINION — Based on the aftermath of two recent grand jury decisions, in St. Louis County, Missouri, Nov. 24 and Staten Island, New York, Wednesday, in which indictments were not issued against white police officers in the deaths of black suspects during law enforcement confrontations, it is clear we have made very little progress in race relations since the horrible events in the Watts neighborhoods of Los Angeles four decades ago.

What is it that has allowed the embers of those times to smolder and now reignite?

Apparently, blacks in Ferguson, Missouri, in New York and across this country see themselves as victims – victims of a white society that unfairly controls their destiny. So now they are flexing their muscle by destroying businesses in their communities, minority-owned businesses. It didn’t make sense in Watts over 40 years ago and it doesn’t make sense now.

Did the businessman that sold cigars to Mr. Brown – oh no, sorry for my mistake, Brown stole the cigars – but anyway, did that businessman make these products available for all to purchase? Did he deny them to anyone? What did he do wrong? Why did fellow store-owners have their businesses burned to the ground? Firefighters were delayed in Ferguson because the streets were blocked and if they had gotten through, they would have been targets for violence.

It is well known that professional violence producers Professional Agitators have been preparing for last week’s decision in Ferguson, Missouri, and this week’s decision in New York. Yet, no community leaders or religious leaders have spoken out against the agitators. Why don’t we hear their loud voices counter this violence? What are the politics in all this?

The mayor of Ferguson pleaded for help from the National Guard and no one came. The FBI, the guard and police could have nipped the violence in Ferguson in the bud over a month before, but they appear to be helpless. What signal does this send to other groups who want to burn our cities?

The agitators have been teaching the local angry black people how to inflict damage on innocent communities. Why do we tolerate criminal behavior like this? Who is turning a blind eye and why?

It begins at the federal level with the president and the attorney general. Neither wants to stop the violence because it serves their purposes. Based on how they have reacted to both these decisions, they see them as an opportunity to further their cause to divide this nation.

They want us to ignore the millions of black people who have struggled to become educated so they could enter a higher level of employment in the workplace. And still other inspiring black leaders have gone on to establish businesses like Herman Cain, become Supreme Court Justices like Clarence Thomas, and advise the president of the United States on foreign affairs, and the list goes on. These public figures have paid a huge price by being ostracized and humiliated by the traditional media and black powerbrokers.

Socialist Democrats know that as victims black people will always need their help to get by in every way for food, lodging and employment. Of course as obligated citizens they will know who to vote for. But this still does not explain why black people are such easy targets.

There are millions of examples of immigrants who enter this county legally and pursue their dreams successfully. Most of them start with little resources but they see the freedom that we have as the precious commodity that it is. They use it to further themselves economically by working hard and getting promoted and starting their own businesses. This is the way capitalism promotes growth. It is not rocket science. It is hard work and requires patience to succeed. The examples of how well this works are so numerous, why don’t more black people follow this example instead of Sharpton’s.

Yes, Sharpton, Jackson, Farrakhan and the rest are all out there stirring up the cauldron. They profit from black unrest. For them it is business and power. For the rest of us it means slow progress and the destruction we’ve witnessed over the past two weeks.

Wouldn’t it be refreshing if this country had leadership that inspired all Americans to continue to improve their lives? The Obama team has done nothing to give real hope to any of us.

Think about how much better our lives could be with a Romney/Carson team at the helm. Romney with the experience in politics and business to energize our economy and Ben Carson with his experience as a surgeon who saved countless infant lives giving ongoing encouragement to blacks and everyone else who wants to succeed.

The country desperately needs leaders who want to help their people. You do not help by throwing money at them. By that standard, the Democrats should have made us perfect. The fishing adage is appropriate here; clearly American know how to feed people. Look at the record number of people on food stamps. But what black America needs is leadership that teaches them how to fish!

Republicans are responsible for the increasing division between races, ethnic groups, upper, middle and lower classes. Who can ever forget Romney’s classless and disdainful comment about the 47% group of people in our country? The interest of Romney and his irk rests solely with the small percentage having the most money and how to make them richer while kicking everyone else to the curb.

Seek treatment and unload all this excess baggage. Then you won’t have to rely on food stamps and socialist handouts.

    • McMurphy December 6, 2014 at 10:32 am

Romney’s comment may have been classless and disdainful — but it was also correct.
By the way, the 47% is now 53 or 54 %

Thanks Bob Ural for being a total nitwit simpleton and idiot… let me repair this statement of yours

“Socialist Democrats know that as victims black people will always need their help to get by in every way for food, lodging and employment. Of course as obligated citizens they will know who to vote for. ”

    fixed version

“Socialist Republicans know that as victims, banks, wallstreet, military contractors and oil companies will always need their help to get by in every way for food, lodging, bailouts, taxbreaks, subsidies, and employment. Of course as obligated citizens they will know who to vote for. “

I keep forgetting that it is the rich, affluent, white forks that are sneaking in to poor black neighborhoods and spraying all that graffiti and selling all those drugs to the poor blacks in an effort to keep them in poverty and their neighborhoods run down. Democrats have done more, in the last 6 years devide us racial than ever. You keep drinking that Koolaid. 2016 is coming. The Democrat reign of poverty is almost done.

  • Billy Madison December 5, 2014 at 4:22 pm

This certainly has racial tones, but it is about rampant police brutality that seems to focus on minority people. When was the last time you got stopped by a cop? Were you treated with dignity or were you made to feel like a common criminal because your license plate was dimly illuminated or you drove a few miles over the limit. It doesn’t surprise me one bit that people act out in defiance.

You dealt a logical, in your face opinion, Mr. Bob Ural.
Frankly, you sound like a person who is willing to turn the other cheek a couple times, but a third time? I know several, (African Americans included), who hold the same views. How many times should a law enforcement officer ( white or black) get kicked in the shins before the cuffs are applied? I say the second time is optional.
Shuffle and deal again Mr. Ural.

Wouldn’t it be great if the Republicans and others who resented President Obama’s election had had the integrity to acknowledge his leadership instead of trying to take him down from the minute he was sworn into office. And no, a Romney/Carson presidency would not by any means have been better.

The logic in this rambling editorial is missing.

    • LadyK December 6, 2014 at 2:19 am

What leadership??? Obama lied to everyone about everything he intended to do. You all bought it hook line and sinker and yet he continues to lie, blame everyone else and fail to do the job he promised to and elected to do. He has not accomplishe one promise he made. You were all so proud of yourselves for voting in the frust black president that you completely sold the country down the river. He had zero experience in leadership. He STILL has zero experience in leadership. So far all we know is that he doesn’t listen to his PDB’s, he gets his information by watching the tv reports and he still has no idea how to lead this country, not that I believe he ever really wanted to. This man ( I personally do not care what color he is) will go down in history as being the most divisive and there most dishonest president is history. He wasn’t an honest man when he went into the job and he isn’t one now. As for the black/law enforcement relations… I saw a man holding up a poster on it he had written “a mother shouldn’t have to worry that her son is going to get killed after every store he robs a store”. Talk about a useful idiot. That poster says it all. For some reason many (not all or even most) believe that they can get/take whatever that want. If they can’t afford it then steal it. That was evident in Ferguson. They do not care who they hurt, but now they are mad there isn’t a auto parts store close by. They complain that now they have to go to far to get parts or go to McDonalds. Plus on top of it all they expect the government that has given them everything they have needed so far to come in and quickly rebuild that which they destroyed. Are you so dumb to really see the truth? Watch the video of the protests and see who it is that is busting out all of the store windows and who it is that is running away with the goods from inside the stores. It is not hard to figure out why it is that black men are stopped by police and treated the way they are. The people who should could be and should be making things better for black people in America are their leaders. I have seen some amazing men and women step forward and tell the truth and try to help those who choose to destroy their own families and cities and choose violence over truth, integrity and honesty. You are what you eat. If you choose to eat hate then that is what you are. I have no respect for anyone who chooses that path, no matter what color they are.

Look how bush made defense contractors rich with his false war and then rewarded bankers and CEOs for their shoddy practices which undermined the nation’s economy.

You can tell by 80% of the comments on this opinion piece, that there’s a lot of folks in this area who just want to be heard.Hear them cry? They don’t care if what they say is bull or not. Just stroke their head, give them a candy bar and tuck them in for the night or they’ll cry. Where I come from, we call them ‘Nit Whits’. Where they come from- their called enlightened, compassionate and deserving. So lets give them the right to live in the Chicago west side if they want. (tee hee).

  • President Mcfabian of AATZ society December 6, 2014 at 10:08 am

I have never heard of such unsensable talk and behavior in all my minestry. You people ignor the truth and make lies to cover up the truths of society. You cannot have a society succeed if you have 80 percent of families with no father in the home, 80 percent illegal drug use, 65 percent of new mothers under the age of 15 with no father present, drop out of high school 81 percent of the time, wait for government hand outs to support your self, be a 5 th or 6 th generation burden on social services. You Can’t tell the truth even if someone wrote it down for you( chances are you can’t read), once a people take care of the own type and own neighbor and Hoods, follow the laws, when a police officer request you to do something you respond properly and respectfully you will have separation, not by color or by race but by people with morals and the people with out morals. There are more programs to help the underprivileged now days more than ever before. But the folks with no morals, no self worth, lazy and the liars of society has high jacked a country. Segregation has and will always exist it called believers and no believers, righteous and non righteous, good and evil, hard workers and lazy, HEAVEN and HELL. Now all we need to do is make a choice what we want to be. Please confirm with you comments and let society know where you personal stand on this issue. Use your real name, or a fictitious what you say will be recorder in life’s book. So think first, societies insistence may be counting on it.

Is he talking about (the 47% don’t matter) Romney, or is there another religious nutbag romney I don’t know about?

  • Roy J December 27, 2014 at 11:12 am

Finally know what’s been bugging me about this opinion. I’d much rather the government throw the people’s tax money back at them in a haphazard fashion and trust them to know what is good for them, than have a man like Romney throwing that money around, who made his tidy little pile by throwing other people’s money around because he knew what was good for him.

  • Koolaid December 27, 2014 at 12:22 pm

The tile “Little progress in US race relations” should be changed to “Little progress in UTAH race relations”. Utah remains one of the most hateful and discriminatory places on the planet. It’s written in the religion of the culture to subjugate anyone who isn’t white & delightsome to a lower class and less worthy being. Even women are treated as second class regardless of the color of their skin.
