NWS upgrades Hard Freeze; High Wind Warning still in effect

WASHINGTON COUNTY – The National Weather Service in Salt Lake City has upgraded the “Hard Freeze Watch” and issued a “Hard Freeze Warning” for Utah’s Dixie and Zion National Park, including the City of St. George, in effect from 2-10 a.m. Monday. A “High Wind Warning” remains in effect until 6 p.m. Sunday.

Utah’s Dixie and Zion National Park, including the City of St. George.

Temperatures

Falling into the middle or upper 20s after midnight, lasting through Monday morning.

Impacts

Temperatures this cold will likely sensitive vegetation. Consider taking preventative measures such as covering or bringing sensitive plants indoors.

Precautionary, preparedness actions

A hard freeze warning means sub-freezing temperatures are imminent or highly likely. These conditions will kill crops and other sensitive vegetation.

High Wind Warning

Affected area

Washington County outside of the St. George area. Specifically, the interstate 15 corridor from Leeds to the Iron County border, near the St. George Airport and western Washington County along the Bull Valley and Beaver Dam mountains.

Winds

Northeast 20 to 30 mph with gusts in excess of 50 mph.

Timing

Strong and quite gusty late afternoon winds will gradually diminish early Sunday evening.

Impacts

The strong and gusty winds will create hazardous travel conditions for high profile and light weight vehicles. Wind sensitive operations will be impacted.

Precautionary, preparedness actions

High wind warning means a hazardous high wind event is expected or is occurring. Sustained wind speeds of at least 40 mph or gusts of 58 mph or more can lead to property damage. Vehicles, especially high profile vehicles, can be difficult to control at times in high winds. Motorists should take extra caution.

        If that’s the case, how can we speed up this global warming business so it’s over 80 all year? My feet are cold right now! If these liberals don’t like the heat they can always move to Siberia!

    Koolaid youre an idiot. Im 24 from wisconsin originally and it is getting colder every year here in southern ut. Doesnt mean people are complaining when they comment that its cold.

    in five years or less stg will be covered in glaciers and ice fields from global cooling
