When he was two years old, his family moved to Pittsburgh, PA. He was home schooled by his mother. His interests included learning anything about military, weather, astronomy, and geography. He became an expert in all of those subjects. When the family moved to Richmond, VA, he had the opportunity to visit all the historical sites, especially the ones concerning the Civil War and learned everything that he could about the Civil War. The family lived there for two more years and moved to Indiana. He loved deer hunting with his father, bicycling and hiking with his friends and family.

After living in Indiana for four years the family moved back to Missouri. Colin went on to serve an honorable mission in Portugal. When he had been in the field for six months, his mother passed away. He decided to finish his mission. After his mission, he returned to Utah where his family was living at that time.
