BLOOMINGTON – An arrest was made and two citations have been issued in an accident that occurred Wednesday on an unincorporated dirt road near the Bear Claw Poppy Trail in the Bloomington area of St. George.
Wednesday afternoon, the St. George Police Department responded to a collision near the Bear Claw Poppy trailhead area off of Navajo Drive in Bloomington. A 1989 Buick Park Avenue and a Kia Soul hit head-on, and both vehicles were totaled.
Though Gold Cross Ambulance responded to the scene, no one was transported to the hospital, though Josh Weiland, of St. George, who was driving the Buick, complained of pain in one hand following the accident and said he feared he may have broken his hand.
After police gathered details at the scene, Adan Moreno, the driver of the Kia, was arrested and two of his passengers were issued citations, St. George Police Capt. Mike Giles said.
Moreno was charged with giving false information to an officer in connection with the accident, a class B misdemeanor; driving without a license and driving left of center, both class C misdemeanors; and he was additionally booked on an outstanding warrant.
Kelsey Lee and Tye Chesley, both passengers in the Kia with Moreno, were each issued citations for giving false information to police in relation to the collision.
Weiland, the driver of the Buick, was found to be without fault in the accident, Giles said.
Moreno has posted bailed and been released from custody, according to current bookings information from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
