Cedar City man arrested after punching police officer in face

CEDAR CITY — A Cedar City man was arrested Friday after punching a police officer in the face as the officer was questioning him about his involvement in a two-vehicle collision.

At approximately 8:30 p.m., officers responded to a collision in the Smith’s Food & Drug parking lot, located at 633 S. Main St. in Cedar City, Cedar City Police Officer Justin Ludlow said in his probable cause statement supporting the arrest.

Izack King, 20, was identified as the driver who had hit another vehicle in the parking lot. While Ludlow talked to the driver of the other vehicle, Cedar City Police Officer Dane Glazier talked to King.

“Officer Glazier was concerned because Izack was playing with something in his pocket,” Ludlow wrote in the statement. “When Officer Glazier asked what was in his pocket, Izack placed paraphernalia down his girlfriend’s back.”

Glazier proceeded to put King in a twist lock and pushed him against a patrol vehicle, according to the statement. King then swung his free arm around and punched Glazier in the face.

“The item that was placed on Izack’s girlfriend was a pipe suspected to be used for marijuana,” Ludlow wrote in the statement. ”Izack later confessed to using the pipe to smoke marijuana.”

King was arrested and charged with one class A misdemeanor for assaulting a police officer and two class B misdemeanors for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

King was booked into the Iron County Jail Friday. His bail is set at $3,310.

Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.

Why is this type of stuff, the only thing stgnews ever reports on? Who cares?

I agree really they just report on police stuff everyday accidents and anything to do with what the police do. I just look at what articles have comments and read the comments almost never read the articles. I can watch cops on tv.

Scum bag. I’m glad STG News reports on police incidents. It allows the public to know what kind of crap these officers have to deal with on a daily basis. Otherwise, we’d all put our heads in the sand and pretend we live in a perfect world.

Punch a cop….go to jail. Pull a gun on a cop….you will die.
    What is there to discuss?

Hahaha our police officers do nothing but extort the public. I don’t trust the police around here. They do anything and everything to ticket you so they can get their quota. I think they somehow forgot they are OUR public servants. They are employed by US, not the state. They need body cams with no ability to control when they are being recorded. They should be recorded every single second on the job.

I bet he had a fun time at booking.

He’s really luck that he only punched the police officer in the face and was only charged with a misdomeanor. If he would have kicked their K-9 dog he would have been facing a felony charge. Only in Utah are animals more protected than people. Wow!!!!!

Glazier should have had to go to the emergency room before being taken in for booking. People who hit cops, richly deserve to get the crap beaten out of them.
