TOQUERVILLE — A 61-year-old woman was transported to the hospital Friday afternoon after she swerved off northbound Interstate 15 near mile marker 27.
Just after noon, a woman driving a red Ford Five Hundred sedan was on her way to to visit her husband who was staying at a hospital and had just merged onto I-15 from Toquerville heading northbound, Utah Highway Patrol Trooper John McMahon said. As she neared mile marker 27, she said that her mind was on her husband and the distraction caused her to veer off the road, he said.
After veering, she over-corrected to the right and then over-corrected to the left which sent her sideways out of control into the median.
As the car slid, it nosedived into the dip of the median which caused the car to lose momentum, settle back on its wheels and come to a rest, McMahon said.
Leeds Fire Department, Washington County Sheriff’s deputies and Utah Highway Patrol responded to the scene. The woman was found to be wearing her seat belt.
Leeds Ambulance transported the woman to Dixie Regional Medical Center with injuries reported as not life threatening.
The car was towed.
