Heather Hill McCleery, of St. George, was arrested and charged with a third-degree felony under Utah Code 76-9-101, causing a riot, after several witnesses identified her as the person who instigated a fight and then called more people on the phone to join the fight which resulted in several people physically injured during its course.

A witness said they saw McCleery yelling at a group of guys near the Skimboard Park on 2700 E. Waterfront Drive in St. George. Another witness said they saw McCleery bring a bat out of her vehicle, matching the information dispatch had given about a bat being used to hit someone in the face.

When officers arrived on scene, they noticed a man lying on the ground who they said appeared to have a concussion, describing him as “limp and almost unconscious, having trouble understanding simple questions, date, time, location and whereabouts.”

The man was transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George.

Another man, who was hit in the face with a tire iron during the fight, leaving him with a “big swollen eye” and laceration, told officers him and his family and friends were at the park when McCleery and her friends started calling them derogatory names such as “spics” and “beaners” and yelling that immigration was coming for them.

The man said he did not know who hit him, as everything happened so fast, but that he did know McCleery had caused the fight to break out and he recognized her because he used to work with her ex-husband.

A third man, who witnesses said was on the ground getting kicked in the head, told officers that before the actual fight happened, he overheard McCleery calling people on the phone to “come fight the Mexicans.” He said at first it was a small group, and then it turned into a large group as people started to arrive in cars.

McCleery was arrested the following day.

McCleery’s next court appearance is set for Nov. 18.

doesn’t matter if she pleads not guilty because there were lots of witnesses. Can’t wait until she’s convicted. That’s what you get for being racist.

I don’t understand this whole situation. She worked with Hispanics for years. Never had a problem. There has got to be more to this story. Who just randomly sees people skimboarding and asks for people to come help beat them up? And why would those individuals do it? I think there is more to this. I hope there weren’t any children around when this happened.

A trusted friend shared with me that when she was a little girl she knew what and who she wanted to be. Like all of us we think we sidetracked or lost that echo from our youth. The awakening came for me from hearing “side, turn, lean”. Then the voice of my thoughts said as clearly as the day I dared to dream the dream I dreamed. “Please do not hurt me.”
I’m in the moment of the most amazing peace. It’s as if all of me that was scattered and frantic came together and I feel whole.
I spoke the words aloud in the tone of “hi nice to meet you,” and a heart felt smile rose from the blank fearful tense locked jaw.
Suddenly I wasn’t alone, or unique or alien, or awkward. I could see in everything and everyone stemming from, “Please do not hurt me.” Every law, every generation, all of us children internally asking please do not hurt me, without ever using the words or owning the simple phrase. And I want to share, I feel healed and I want to share with everybody the opportunity to recognize and speak the phrase,”Please do not hurt me. ” Not begging not in crisis, not in fear or distress, just inject,” Please do not hurt me”, into a conversation.
What would happen if our mouths spoke, ears heard and eyes met on such a simple phrase. The genuine internal motivation for just about everything we do.
Trust and confidence would not be foggy proposition.
I suppose it’s not an energy booster perse’, yet some how the burden of disabling fear and pressure has lost the choke hold on me.

  • Hey batter batter..... October 10, 2014 at 9:43 am

Why wasn’t she charged with a federal “hate crime” ? Could it be because she is of the favored Ward? Is her family in the right Ward? Is her family influential? I will dare predict that this will NOT be the last time Ms. McCleery exhibits her racist hate. She SHOULD have been charged with a “hate crime”!! She should consider herself very fortunate that the homegirls didn’t get a hold of her. Next time she decides to bring out her baseball bat….she just may run into someone with a legally carried firearm. Could get ugly…..
