Pine View 46, Cedar 24
ST. GEORGE — Kody Wilstead passed for 380 yards and three touchdowns and Pano Tiatia rushed for 138 yards and two scores as Pine View outran Cedar at Panther Stadium Friday night.
The Panthers raced out to a 20-0 lead in the first quarter on three long drives while keeping Cedar to just one first down in the first. Pine View drove 60, 81 and 71 yards on its first three drives to jump out to the early lead. The Panthers scored on a short TD run by Jaden Peterson, a 60-yard catch-and-run by Blake Ence from Wilstead and a 23-yard romp by Tiatia.
Cedar got on the board with an Austin Obering 23-yard run early in the second quarter to make it 20-7, but Pine View answered with yet another long drive. After a 78-yard possession that took just seven plays and two minutes, Tiatia scored on a 1-yard dive to make it 26-10.
Cedar added a field goal by Jeff Rogers to make it 26-10 at the half, but PV opened the second half with its fifth long drive of the game, an 86-yard march in eight plays. jaden Peterson got his second short run to make it 32-10 and the rout was on.
The Redmen did put together a couple of nice drives in the second half, but never got closer than a 15-point margin the rest of the game. Sophomore Mason Fakahua, making his first varsity start, passed for 137 yards and rushed for 64 more, but also had three interceptions. Cedar turned the ball over four times, to just one for Pine View.
The Panthers, 5-2 overall and 3-1 in region, are now tied for second place with Desert Hills in the 3AA South Region. The Panthers host first-place Hurricane next Thursday night.
Cedar fell to 3-3 overall and 0-3 in region. The Redmen host Snow Canyon next Thursday.
