ST. GEORGE — A man was taken to the hospital Friday morning following a collision that occurred in the intersection of 400 West and 200 North in St. George.

Just after 9:30 a.m., a woman driving a white PT Cruiser was traveling southbound on 400 West when she missed the stop sign at 200 North and crashed into the rear driver’s side of a white Ford F150 that was traveling eastbound on 200 North, St. George Police Officer Jamison Hale said.

The impact of the collision snapped the truck’s rear axle and caused the truck to spin out, Hale said. The truck then came to rest partially on the sidewalk facing oncoming traffic on the side of the road. The impact also sent the PT Cruiser continuing southbound, crossing the northbound lane and stopping also partially on the sidewalk facing oncoming traffic.

“I was standing on the corner about to cross the street when this happened,” Terri Peterson, of St. George, said. “The crash was so loud. One of them put their brakes on at one point; they kept squealing. I found myself trying to run, which I haven’t done in years. Then a jogger came up and called 911. I stayed with the man and was telling him not to move his head.”

St. George Fire Department, St. George Police and Gold Cross Ambulance responded to the scene.

Both lanes from 200 North to 100 North were blocked during the investigation and cleanup of the accident.

The man driving the truck was transported by Gold Cross Ambulance to Dixie Regional Medical Center and was complaining of back injuries. The woman suffered mild burns to the face from a deployed airbag.

Both vehicles were towed. The woman was issued a citation for failing to yield, Hale said.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by responders on scene and may not contain the full scope of findings.

The city needs to do something about these invisible stop signs, and what is it about all these women who don’t see them?

    *brakes, not ‘breaks’

Seriously? There is a pandemic of women running stop signs in this town. There is no excuse for not seeing a stop sign when you should be driving 25 mph on residential streets. Just STOP already!

Part of the problem is that many intersections that should have a stop sign don’t and many intersections that don’t really need a stop sign have one–which encourages people to run through them, especially when they think nobody is looking.

The other part of the problem is that some people here are paying more attention to everything but their driving. The good thing is that Ive seen less people on their cell phones now that the anti-text drive law has been given some teeth. 🙂 IMO they should ban a drivers use of mobile’s altogether like they did in Britain a few years ago.

These women must be a bunch of bimbo boobs if they can’t see stop signs.

I’ve dodged a few close calls in my Saint George driving history . for self preservation I slow /stop at all intersections with are without stop signs and look both ways .
Saint George is where the young and working class clash with the old and slow retired class.

Given the growth of large trees and landscaping around the area ,
( which can be distracting )
It would be helpful if the city added LARGE TYPE painted STOP on the streets that are suppose to stop / not a through fare .

It won’t get the totally distracted drivers but it might help some .
