Verna Peterson Stone passed away peacefully Wednesday, September 17, 2014, in St. George, Utah, surrounded by her family. She was born September 30, 1919, in Santaquin, Utah, the youngest of eight children born to Lewis Frechof Peterson and Dora Blohm Peterson.

Verna married Ralph Winward Stone on March 14, 1938, and together they had four children; Ralph Larry Stone (deceased), Clyde L. Stone, Eloise Yeager and Sheri Granlee. She also set the woman’s long distance record for flight in archery. Verna received an engraved necklace for being the most athletic girl in high school – something she was very proud of – she kept and cherished this necklace always. She was also a wonderful poet. She wrote many poems and took great joy in writing poems for the friends and family in her life for many different occasions.

She served as a second counselor under three Relief Society presidents and secretary under two presidents. She was also a visiting teacher for 32 years. She served in the temple whenever and however she could. She was a faithful member of the LDS first ward in Hurricane, Utah.

She was preceded in death by her brothers; Ralph, Evan, Alden, Scherl, Clinton and her sisters Florence and Arzley and by her husband Ralph and son Larry.

She is survived by and will be dearly missed by her son Clyde (Hope), daughters Eloise (Kirk) and Sheri (Gary), nine grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
