Arts Council workshops teach artists business development, 8-class series

CEDAR CITY — Artists in the literary, performing, and visual arts who want to refine their business skills have a unique opportunity to participate in the Professional Development Workshop Series sponsored by the Cedar City Arts Council, with eight workshops spread out from Sept. 6 through Feb. 28, 2015.

Debbie Drake, a program director at the Southwest Applied Technology College, and other professionals will lead the workshops, training local artists and arts organizations in the business side of arts management.

“The eight classes each focus on a specific component of a business plan,” Drake said, “so the artists that complete the series will possess a working business plan and have a clear direction for their successful future.”

The first workshop will be held Saturday, from 10 a.m.-noon at the Cedar City Aquatic Center. The emphasis “Mission and Vision” will be led jointly by Drake and Deborah Snider, assistant professor of art education at Southern Utah University and president of the Cedar City Arts Council.
