News short: 76-year-old man taken to hospital after motorcycle brakes fail

LEEDS – A 76-year-old Leeds man was transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center Friday evening after the brakes failed on his motorcycle, causing both bike and rider to leave the road, strike a boulder and crash through a barbed wire fence.

“He was riding an old Harley Sportster that he has been restoring,” Utah Highway Patrol Trooper John McMahon said.

The motorcycle’s brakes failed as the man was rounding a corner on Silver Valley Road in Leeds, heading eastbound near the Leeds Cemetery.

The man was taken to the hospital with a suspected broken hip and also scrapes and bruises, McMahon said.

The man’s motorcycle was loaded onto a private trailer and removed from the roadway at the scene. No other vehicles were involved in the accident.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.

I feel sorry that they were hurt, but it sounds like it was not restored properly. If a car had happened to be there, there would have been an outcry of “the cars need to watch out for the motorcycles!!!”

76 and still on a bike? You go dude. 69 sportsters had awful brakes even when working properly.
