2 men arrested for smoking pot, drinking with teenagers

CEDAR CITY – Saturday night Iron County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a fight in a home in Cedar City. When deputies arrived they located 49-year-old Tony Taylor. After conducting an investigation into the events of the night, Taylor and his 41-year-old neighbor David Torrey were arrested on multiple counts of drug possession, child endangerment, and contributing to the delinquency of minors.

When Deputies arrived at the home, they found Taylor, highly intoxicated, with two teenagers, according to the probable cause statement filed by Deputy T. Byrd in support of the arrests.

During the investigation, Byrd wrote in his statement, deputies learned that Taylor had taken the two teenagers over to Torrey’s home where they smoked marijuana and drank alcohol. The boys admitted they had done so when deputies questioned them.

The boys then described to deputies items that were used during these events, the statement said, as well as the location of where they smoked the marijuana. The boys said that it was Torrey who supplied the drugs.

Deputies obtained a search warrant for Torrey’s home and were able to find the described paraphernalia, and some marijuana. They then arrested both Taylor and Torrey and transported them to the Iron County Correctional Facility where Taylor was booked on two counts of child endangerment, third-degree felonies; two counts contributing to the delinquency of a minor, third-degree felonies; possession of a controlled substance in a drug free zone, a class A misdemeanor; possession of drug paraphernalia, a class B misdemeanor; and intoxication, a class C misdemeanor.

Bail was set for Taylor at $10,000; and for Torrey at $15,000, and as this report is published, Taylor has been released on bond while Torrey is still in custody at the Iron Correctional Facility.

Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.

Tsk! Tsk! Tsk! Hold out your wrist. Slap! “Bad dog!” “Bad dog!” Oh, wait, that was last month. All the same, it’s a good thing these four 2-legged good ole boys weren’t also two-timin’ with 4-legged creatures (dogs, sheep, horses, etc), cuz even in Cedar, they’d be in one big heap o trouble. Now go tell your bishop you had a mental lapse in good judgement.

Why do most of your comments disparage people who follow a religion, even when an article has nothing to do with it. Does it make you feel superior? Do you mock Muslims or Jews, Christians in general, or just Mormons? I’ve not been following that closely, you’re only one of several that feels such a need. Just wondering, can you describe your motivation?

It is amateur celebrity crime for a voyeuristic people. The reporter may hope to break into the big time and next cover a Hollywood sex scandal, or some lurid crime. Giving the people what they want really, or at least trying to. (OMG, they was smoking pot!! Who seen them….)

Does being LDS, serving a mission or performing some other church function reduce a sentence or fine for a crime committed? I notice when someone LDS does a good thing, his ward is mentioned. Why is his ward not mentioned for crimes committed by LDS members? Why are no other churches mentioned when other people do good things?

I have to wonder what a couple of 40+ year old guys are doing, hanging around with teenagers in the first place??? It sure isn’t a “wholesome time” they are looking for.

That’s a very good question, especially in the religious environs where old horn dogs pursuing young girls for their brides and breeders seems to be acceptable and the norm. Even some former Utah Attorney General gave the impression of turning his back against to those activities. How many older men in the polygamists like to “party” with teenage girls? Why do the worthy folk not see this as unworthy behavior?
