Judith Ann Smith

SmithJudy obit(January 31, 1947 – July 7, 2014)

Judith Ann Smith, 67, returned home on July 7, 2014 in St. George, Utah. She was born on January 31, 1947 in Muskogee, Oklahoma to Stephen and Syble Highers.  She married David Johns in 1966, later divorced and married Vee “Gabby” Smith on December 13, 1975.  They made their home in Hurricane at that time and never left.

She was born and lived for a short time in Muskogee, Oklahoma.  She moved to Page, Arizona where she graduated from high school and attended Beauty College.  She later moved to Utah.  Although she left Oklahoma when she was young, she always considered herself an “Okie from Muskogee.”  She was fascinated with cowboys and loved to ride horses in her younger days, which is how she ended up falling for Gabby.  She loved living in a small town and enjoyed regular trips to Lin’s to talk with the ladies there. She never ventured far from home and could never imagine driving in a big city like Salt Lake.  She loved being around family, talking about the good ole’ days, watching old movies, cooking, and the color purple.  She was kind and considerate to everyone and never talked bad about anyone.  You couldn’t come to her house without her trying to fix you something to eat.  She was a loving and supportive sister, mother, grandmother, and aunt. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her children: David (Holly) Johns of West Jordan, UT, Dale (Jennifer) Johns of Kaysville, UT, Dan Smith of Hurricane, Dean Smith of Hurricane. five grandchildren: Breanna Johns, Kyle Johns, Brooklyn Johns, Braxton Johns, Brighton Johns; one great grandson: Terrell Johns; sister, Donna Horn; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Gabby; brother, Jack Highers; sister, Bettye Horn; and her parents.
