CEDAR CITYJed Prisbrey Imlay, 32, appeared for his initial hearing at the 5th District Court in Cedar City on Tuesday. Imlay resigned from the Cedar City Police Department June 16 after being charged with driving under the influence while off duty – allegedly with a child in the vehicle – and leaving the scene of an accident after crashing in the parking lot of a little league baseball complex.

Imlay entered not guilty pleas through his attorney, Douglas Terry, to charges of driving under the influence of alcohol with a minor in the vehicle, a class-A misdemeanor, and leaving the scene of an accident that involved property damage, a class-B misdemeanor.

Prosecution is being handled by the Beaver County Attorney’s Office in order to avoid a conflict of interest with Iron County.

A review hearing is set for Aug. 12 at 9 a.m.

Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.

What joke!! Not guilty really? Just because he was an officer doesn’t mean he is above the law. He should be held accountable for his actions to the full extent of the law. He shod also be required to replace the county vehicle he rolled out of his own pocket and not tax payers pockets. I understand people make mistakes but own up to them and be an adult.

He PLED not guilty. He wasn’t FOUND not guilty. He very well may “be held accountable …to the full extent of the law.” Give the law a chance, it isn’t finished with him.

TERI…..this guy didn’t roll any vehicle. You must obviously have your “former
police officers” mixed up. The officer that rolled his county vehicle was former Washington County Sheriff Lt. Jake Adams.
This guy was an officer with the Cedar City Police Dept.

Teri, you have things mixed up. This is not the dude that rolled a county vehicle, that was a (now former,) Washington County Sheriff’s Lieutenant. This is a (now former) Cedar City Police Officer. Two separate clowns, two separate crashes.
He has the legal right to plead not guilty. Hopefully though, justice will be served in the end.

The Cedar City policeman didn’t roll a county vehicle. It’s best to not confuse one story with another.

  • Anon July 9, 2014 at 5:57 am

I agree with you on the not guilty pleas, but this is not the officer that rolled a county vehicle. That was a Washington County Sheriff lieutenant.

I notice a lot of Cedar City news from the eighth here, but nothing from St. George! Good to see coverage of Cedar, but did everybody in Dixie decide to take the day off?

  • Bobby Hill July 9, 2014 at 11:02 am

Your confusing two different cases dear… And everyone pleads not guilty to everything thes days..

  • SSfreeze July 9, 2014 at 11:26 am

Teri, I think you have your stories mixed up. This clown is not the guy who rolled his County Cruiser. This is the guy who did minor damage with his car (not sure if it was his cruiser) in a parking lot and then drove home without reporting the incident. He did have his children in the car just like the other idiot who did roll his vehicle. You don’t hear much about the other incident, not sure what ever came of those charges against the deputy.

  • Itsme July 9, 2014 at 11:40 am

Teri- I think you are getting two situations mixed up. This is not the Washington County Deputy that rolled his truck. This is a Cedar City Officer he hit something but didn’t roll it, and I don’t think he was driving a City vehicle. If I remember right the Washington County Deputy will have to pay restitution on the vehicle he wrecked.
As far as the Not Guilty pleas, that is pretty standard procedure in DUI’s so that the evidence can be further reviewed and the defendants attorney can have an opportunity to dispute any questionable evidence. This is the same right afforded any citizen not just something extended to the privilaged.
It is truly disappointing that people are so irrisponsible but it think it is essecially disappointing when the people we expect more of, such as Law Enforcement, violate the trust we put in them.

I am at a loss for words. The system has failed the civilian public again.

    • My Evil Twin July 9, 2014 at 7:36 pm

Would you like to explain just how the “system has failed the civilian public again” Josh?
This dude lost his job, if he hadn’t resigned, they would have fired him. He is making his appearances in court. He has the legal right to plead not guilty, just as you or I would have on any charge we were arrested on.
At this point, it really remains to be seen how well the system works out.

      • JOSH DALTON July 11, 2014 at 9:46 am

He lied. He plead not guilty. He knows he was breaking the law and so does the court. that is the bottom line if you read the fine print. i.e the system failed.

    • Mark Vinclio July 9, 2014 at 9:51 pm

why josh??? because he is not entitled to the same constitutional rights…How has the system failed…you don’t know how the system works..go back to the club house this might be over your head!

      • JOSH DALTON July 11, 2014 at 9:39 am

I guess most of you are are rookies to the Judicial system here. I have already made the mistake of driving drunk myself. 0.009 if you cold call that drunk. I also lost my job. I had to pay fines,go to jail and lost my driving right for a year. Well even after the Judge told me I was free and clear. Here we are 10yrs later with a DUI on my record as never being paid. Or a failure to appear. The system failed me. But I learned not to drive after any alcohol consumption at all. Did I mention I still have a valid Drivers license. But if I get pulled over I will go to jail for a bogus warrant that I have already payed my dues for. SO GO PRAY OR SOMETHING! the only thing over my head is the fact that I am buried in the system and can’t get out. No matter how many 10s of thousands my family has had to pay to the court system just to keep them off my back. Why the 5th district court can’t admit to dropping the ball even after producing proof that fines were paid. don’t even get me started on my Ice fishing ticket….

  • Teri July 9, 2014 at 8:41 pm

My mistake you’re right. Both stories anger me. We as civilians are punished for crimes and held accountable for our actions, but these people who we are suppose to respect and teach us right from wrong can get away with crap. Thanks for reading my rant and correcting my mix-up.

  • S. Carter July 9, 2014 at 11:58 pm

Anyone else wanna weigh in on whether Teri has 2 different cases mixed up???

  • IN THE GAME July 10, 2014 at 10:35 pm

Yes law enforcement officers should be held to a higher standard, however they are only human as well as you and me. How many doctors, lawyers, pilots, and many others who are also held to high standards make the same poor decision to drink and drive? pleading not guilty is a standard, so let the court system do it’s job now. In the end I’m sure he will pay the same price as anyone else would in a similar situation.
