For several years, the City of St. George’s traditional Sunset on the Square has provided free summertime entertainment for community members. This year, Hurricane City, Santa Clara and Washington City will also offer outdoor movies periodically throughout the summer.

Movies will be shown on big screens on weekend nights in area parks, except as otherwise indicated.

All showings are free to the public, and moviegoers are encouraged to bring blankets or chairs for outdoor seating as well as snacks to enjoy during the movies. In some cases, food and concessions will be available for purchase as indicated in the following schedule.

Hurricane City

Movies begin at 9 p.m. at the Hurricane Community Center, 63 S. 100 West – except for one showing at the pool on June 21.

Food and snack concessions are not being provided; moviegoers are welcome to bring their own snacks and picnics.

On July 25th, is it THE “The Fly Boys” that was filmed here in St. George? If so, many of our local youth were used as extras. These “extras” are now mid to late twenties. Our boys were extras but by the time it hit the theater, they were off serving in Iraq and did not have an opportunity to see it. And it’s not on video.

I don’t mean to be a downer, but I’m a bit confused. Did the various cities get the appropriate authorization to show these movies? I thought that copyright laws prohibited public viewings like these without proper authorization (i.e. like the special permissions that movie theaters are required to have).
