HURRICANE – The azure waters and crimson rocks of Sand Hollow State Park will once again be touched with the grace and athletic prowess of hundreds of thriathletes and duathletes on Saturday when the BBSC Endurance Sport group hosts the Sand Hollow Triathlon, Duathlon and 5K run.
The event is the second in the BBSC’s triathlon series and will offer races in multiple distances including an Olympic distance triathlon – 1500 meter swim, 20.4 mile bike, 10K run; a sprint distance triathlon – 750 meter swim, 12.4 mile bike, 5K run; a duathlon – 5K Run, 12.4 mile Bike, 5K Run; a youth triathlon; a kid’s triathlon and a 5K run.
Packet pick up, athlete check in and an event expo will take place on Friday from 3-8 p.m. at the Washington County Regional Park in the Exhibit Building, 5500 W. 700 S., in Hurricane.
Race day begins at 6 a.m. Saturday at Sand Hollow State Park when the first transition opens. Body marking, bike maintenance and same day packet pick up and check in will be available for participating athletes.
All athletes will receive a gender specific T-shirt, a finisher medal, post race food and a chance to win prizes. Additionally awards will be given to the top three finishers in the following categories: Overall male and female, age group, weight group and relay teams.
Parking will be allowed in the upper lot for staff, volunteers and individuals with special needs only. The BBSC group asks that all athletes and spectators please follow police and park ranger directions when parking on adjacent roads. Shuttles to the transition and expo areas will be provided.
The Sand Hollow Triathlon is a USA Triathlon sanctioned race.
