Car hopping spree leads to arrest on multiple charges

MESQUITE, Nev. — After receiving tips about vehicle burglaries for some nine days, Mesquite Police arrested one suspect Sunday morning.

The Mesquite Police Dept. began receiving calls concerning overnight vehicle thefts on May 16, which continued through Saturday. The majority of the reported incidents were located south of Mesquite Boulevard.

“We are not sure the total loss taken from the vehicles because we still have victims coming forward,” Mesquite Police Detective Gary Erickson said. “For the most part it was small items from the cars.”

Mesquite Police Chief Tanner requested a saturation patrol and assigned detectives to the area. “All of our detectives went out, and we stayed within that geographical area,” Erickson said. “Patrol was in marked units, and detectives were in unmarked.”

Early Sunday morning detectives were able to identify 19-year-old, Ryan M. Prescott of Mesquite, as a suspect in the car-hopping spree.
