William Gerald Comeau, 31, was arrested and charged with one first-degree felony for drug possession and distribution, one second-degree felony for drug possession and distribution, one third-degree felony for the possession of a dangerous weapon, and one class-B misdemeanor for drug paraphernalia.

According to the probable cause statement filed in connection with the arrest, Probation and Parole officers A. Dressler and Weaver were performing a home compliance visit to Comeau’s residence at 136 North Main in Hurricane, when they found him to be in violation of his probation agreement and placed him under arrest.

While searching Comeau, agents found a brown leather pouch containing a white powdery and crystal substance, 4.14 grams of suspected methamphetamine, 5 unused small bags, a yellow pill inscribed with a dragonfly, a small plastic corner of a bag containing a crystal substance suspected to be methamphetamine, $780 cash, and a knife. The suspected meth was Field Investigation Drug Officer-tested and preliminarily tested positive for methamphetamine.

“Comeau stated the yellow pill was ecstasy,” Dressler said in the statement.

Comeau’s drug related charges were enhanced one degree for being in a “Drug Free Zone” – his address is located within 490 feet of a Hurricane Bible Church. Comeau is also a Class I restricted person, as he is currently on probation, making it a third-degree felony for him to be in possession of a dangerous weapon.

Comeau was booked into Washington County’s Purgatory Correctional Facility. According to booking information, Comeau’s bail stands at $48,886.

Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
