Clark Arthur Olds, our sweet and amazing father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2014, at the end of the day after his family had been by for a visit.

Clark was born the oldest of eight children on the eve of Independence Day, July 3, 1919, in Toquerville, Utah, to Arthur Herbert Olds and Lottie Encora Dodge Olds. He was 94 years old. The beautiful little town of Toquerville and his opportunity to live there was always a blessing he loved and cherished his entire life.

On June 15, 1946, he married his sweetheart and best friend, Mona Bringhurst. The marriage was later solemnized in the St. George Temple. They were blessed with four children, Bonnie Kae Ballard, Toquerville, Gaona Schoppmann (Mitchell), Cedar City, Lynn Clark (Linda) Olds, Toquerville, Marlan L. (Debbie) Olds, Toquerville. Clark has 13 beautiful grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren who he loved very much.

At Hurricane High School Clark loved being involved in the sports programs they offered. He loved baseball, basketball and track. He would walk from Hurricane to Toquerville at night so he had the opportunity to play the sports he loved. He graduated from Hurricane High School.

Clark joined the Utah National Guard on October 10, 1940, and on December 6, 1941, he left San Francisco for the Philippines. Pearl Harbor was bombed the next morning and they turned the ship around and brought them back to San Francisco; they then left again on December 16, 1941, for Hawaii. Clark then spent the next five years serving his country in the South Pacific.

Dad started his employment at Scholzen Products Company on June 6, 1946, and retired after thirty years.

Clark loved working with the Little League program for eight years with his sons, Boy Scouts, MIA with the youth for twelve years, Toquerville Planning Board, Cemetery Sexton for sixteen years, and many terms on the Toquerville Water Board.

Dad loved his membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved being of service to his Savior. He served in many ward and stake callings especially loved his calling when he and his sweet wife served a mission at the Family Locator Mission in St. George.

Dad has always been a Historian and kept very exact and complete records of his entire life’s events. Dates and times were very important in his world. He has written many histories and stories that will be cherished by his extended family.

Clark is survived by his children, and siblings, Wayne Olds, Hurricane, UT, Lloyd (Myrna) Olds, Henderson, NV, Clayton (Sue) Olds, Hurricane, Valene Norton, Hurricane and Patty Ann Henrie (James) Burdell Herriman, UT. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mona Bringhurst Olds, his parents, and siblings, Lois Iverson and Thelma Scholzen.

The family would like to thank Jake and Michele Olds, Chadly Ballard, Dixie Regional Hospital and Intermountain Hospice.

Funeral Services

  • Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 8, 2014 at 11 a.m. in the Toquerville LDS Chapel, 63 Toquerville Blvd, Toquerville, UT.
  • There will be a viewing Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. and also on Thursday morning prior to services from 9:30-10:30 a.m., both viewings held at the chapel.
  • Interment will take place in the Toquerville Cemetery.
