HURRICANE – A man was arrested by Hurricane City Police Thursday evening after threatening others with a weapon.
Hurricane City Police officers responded to a report of a threatening in progress around 5:30 p.m., Hurricane City Police Sgt. Brandon Buell said in a statement. The suspect was described as threatening the lives of multiple people with a pickaxe.
The man left the area where he had been threatening people and went to a residence in the area of 300 South 200 West. Officers soon located him and contained the area for around 45 minutes.
“There were concerns that the suspect was armed and dangerous during the incident and precautions were taken to ensure the safety of all those involved,” Buell said.
The man eventually left the residence and was taken into custody without further incident. He was arrested and is being booked into the Washington County Purgatory Correctional Facility on multiple charges related to domestic violence and aggravated assault, as well as weapon and drug charges.
Personnel from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and Hurricane Fire and Ambulance responded to assist Hurricane City Police involved in the incident.
Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.

Absolutely unacceptable. I really think Mr. Bloomberg and Ms. Brady need to continue their crusade against guns, but also include pickaxes and knives. I mean with these sort of weapons out there how can we keep our children safe!!!??? And just last year in 2013 one of the most common weapons according to statistics was vehicles!!!!! I stand with Mr. Bloomberg, Ms. Brady, And all the other liberals when I say GUNS, KNIVES, PICKAXES, ICE PICKS, VEHICLES, HAMMERS, COMMERCIAL JET AIRPLANES, PIPE BOMBS, or PENCILS Kill people! And these sort of weapons will not be tolerated in society. Me and Mr. Reid, Nancy, and Barry think that any and all things that could be used as a weapon should be regulated by fees and taxes! I mean do we really want to live in an America people were violent pickaxes are legal!!!???

I’ll bite BURTON. The pickaxe is a tool for digging while the gun is a tool for killing. I’m sure this distinction will confuse you. Don’t be upset, some of us are just slower than others.

Was this a semi-automatic or full auto assault pick ax? Did it have a 78 round clip magazine that could empty itself in 1.6 seconds? I wonder if it had a handle that flips up. Competition shooting is killing? Not everyone who has or shoots guns is a murderer or a “killer”. Your right some of us are slower than others.

Thank God he wasn’t threatening people with a gun. Judging by actions of the local GOPhers during the ongoing Incident involving a “man” named Cliven Bundy, they would have pinned a medal on his chest and taken him to Pahrump for an all day extravaganza at one of the local cat houses. “After all”, they’d say, ” he was only standing up for his constitutional right to bear arms”.
These comments illustrate what is wrong with this world…
