Washington County Republican, Democratic conventions, details

ST. GEORGE – The Washington County Republican and Democratic Conventions will be held this weekend, marking the next step in the 2014 election season.

Democratic convention

The Washington County Democratic Party Convention will be held Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Fossil Ridge Intermediate School in St. George. The convention affords Democrats from Washington County the opportunity to elect the delegates that will represent them at the state convention later this month.

Additionally, candidates will have booths and a chance to address the convention, as well as answer questions from their constituents.

“We are at a critical crossroads for our state and for the country as a whole,” said Dorothy Engelman, former Washington County Democratic Party chair and candidate for Utah House District 74. “As we continue to recover from the massive recession which began in 2008, this is not a time to stop the forward momentum of the Democrats in Utah to improve the lives of all Utahns and to assure that all voices are heard. Although the Democratic Party is a minority party in Utah, its members are passionate about the issues confronting our state. The delegates from Washington County who go to the state convention will reflect not only the concerns of our citizens, but also bring exciting ideas for solutions.”
