Morgan, Melba obit(December 13, 1928 – March 29, 2014)

Melba May Morgan passed on March 29, 2014. She was born December 13, 1928 to Ada Lee and Reese Griffiths in Minersville, Utah.

She was blessed to have 7 brothers and 3 sisters.

Melba eloped to marry Paul Smith in 1943 to Las Vegas, Nevada. They had 3 beautiful children, Roger, Christine and Becky.

Melba grew up and attended school in Minersville. After her marriage, Melba and her husband moved to California. She attended Riverside City College, eventually becoming a Cosmetology Instructor. She opened several beauty salons in California and Nevada before opening a beauty salon in St. George in 1979. She was later became a realtor before retiring to Washington, Utah.

Melba was always loving, compassionate, unselfish, responsible, gracious, an avid reader and an interested listener. She made friends easily and had many. She was always willing and able to find a way to assist family and friends when they needed help.

Melba is survived by her sister, Jeanne (David) Willden of Las Vegas, NV; brother, David (Sharon) Griffiths of Minersville, UT; three children, Christine (Jim) Shore of Las Vegas, NV, Becky Childers of Washington, UT and Roger Clayton Smith of Washington, UT; six grandchildren, Clayton, Shiloh, Jamie, Britany, Tonya and Sherry, 14 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

Melba was preceded in death by a grandson, Blake Dalton; granddaughter, Joy Store; brothers, Reginald, La Von, Horald “Griff”, John, Richard, and Robert Griffiths; sisters, LaBerta (Winfred) Bobo, Evelyn (Keith) Warby.

The family wishes to express deep gratitude to the staff of the Comfort Cottage in Washington for their outstanding loving care given to Melba for the past two years. A very special thanks to Matt, Harold and Rose for their compassion and kindness to the family.

Funeral Services

  • Funeral services will be held Friday, April 4, 2014 at 11 a.m. in the Minersville Ward Relief Society Room, Minersville, UT, where friends may call two hours prior to services.
  • Interment will take place in the Minersville Cemetery.
