MOAB — A BASE jumper fell approximately 400 feet to his death Friday near Moab. He jumped from an area known as “the sweet spot” which is located on cliffs above Mineral Canyon approximately 40 miles west of Moab.
The man was 35 years old and his name is being withheld pending notification, the Grand County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.
The accident occured at approximately 7 p.m. Friday night.
The Grand County Sheriff’s department was notified of the accident when the BASE jumper’s friends were able to get cell service. Grand County Sheriff’s Office, Search and Rescue as well as Lifegaurd Helicopter were all dispatched to the area for recovery.
Because of the location and the difficulty recovering the jumper, the recovery was initiated again the next day, Saturday at 6:30 a.m, according to the release. Saturday, Search and Rescue members were able to lower the jumper to the bottom with several belays down an extreme tallus slope. The recovery was complete at approximately 12:30 p.m.

I just hate how these stunts put those recovery teams in such dangerous situations. Hopefully none of the rescuers were hurt.
Yea really. If someone’s going to die doing something this stupid…
He was doing what he loved. Have some respect for his family.
Ditto.
Why the heck should we have any respect for his family? Obviously, he did not have any.
Bub and Joanna, don’t you two know that in today’s society, it is ALL ABOUT ME! These folks don’t care about safety, they don’t care about the families they leave behind, they don’t care about their rescuers, and they certainly don’t care about any laws or rules. They are childish, self centered dolts who go out and get in trouble and then expect to be rescued.
And I’m sure there will be a bunch of them come on here and tell all three of us how ignorant and misguided WE are. . . 🙁
There’s a new idiot born every second, and some unlucky fellow has to clean up this idiot’s splattered remains… like a final tribute to his idiocy… RIP
