ST. GEORGE — High school basketball ended a few weeks ago and fans of the Morgan boys team and the Desert Hills girls team are likely still feeling good about their state championships and rightfully so — but hoops fans have one last chance to see their favorite players in action Saturday night in this year’s version of the March Mayhem All-Star Game.
The festivities, which are being held at Pine View High School this year, begin at 5 p.m. with the girls all star game, featuring the Region 9 stars (coached by Hurricane’s Shelly Kidd-Thomas) against a team of Southern Utah stars (coached by Enterprise’s Lance Jones).
After the girls game, there will be a 3-point shooting contest for both the girls and boys and then a slam dunk contest for the boys all stars.
Following the skills contest, the boys will suit up for their All-Star game, featuring the Region 9 senior stars against the senior stars from Southern Nevada. James Brown, coach of the region-champion Snow Canyon Warriors, will lead the Region 9 team, while the Southern Nevada squad will be coached by Darrius Banks.
This year features the new Darin Walker MVP Award presented by Heritage Catering. Walker, a former coach and the owner of Heritage Catering, was a huge proponent of high school sports in southern Utah. He passed away recently after battling serious illness for several years.
Admission to the event is $6 for adults and $3 for students with school ID. Family passes can be purchased for $12.
