Heavy traffic expected on I-15 through Virgin River Gorge; alternate route

ARIZONA STRIP — With a NASCAR racing event March 6-9 expected to attract a huge gathering of fans at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, the Arizona Department of Transportation is urging motorists traveling on Interstate 15 in the far northwest corner of Arizona, that is, through the Virgin River Gorge, to allow extra travel time as the anticipated increase in traffic moves through construction zones.

ADOT is currently working on a series of bridge rehabilitation projects along the I-15 Virgin River Gorge corridor. Motorists traveling between Mesquite, Nev., and St. George, Utah, should plan ahead for delays in both directions through the work zones.

Traffic on I-15 is narrowed to one lane in each direction at Virgin River Bridge No. 2 and Virgin River Bridge No. 3, both at Arizona mile post 13, approximately 15 miles north of Mesquite, Nev., and at Virgin River Bridge No. 7, Arizona mile post 22, approximately 15 miles south of St. George, to allow work on the southbound bridge deck surfaces.

ADOT is anticipating heavy traffic on southbound I-15 Friday afternoon and on northbound I-15 all day on Sunday.

Alternate route and tips for drivers

Individuals seeking to avoid the heavy traffic in the Virgin River Gorge may take Highway 91 as an alternate route. The highway bypasses the gorge entirely, intersecting with I-15 at Littlefield, Ariz. to the south, and connecting to St. George at the north via Santa Clara and Sunset Boulevard. See map included in this article.

With limited alternate routes due to the remote location of the I-15 Virgin River Gorge corridor, ADOT urges drivers traveling between Mesquite, Nevada, and St. George, Utah, to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, slow down and drive carefully through the work zone, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.

NO TOLLS IN ARIZONA ON I-15. REPEAT == NO TOLLS ON I-15 IN ARIZONA. TELL ARIZONA TO GO TO … ABOUT TOLLS ON I-15 IN ARIZONA.

NEW NAME FOR ARIZONA = GOUGEZONA JUST AS THE NEW NAME FOR CALIFORNIA HAS BEEN GOUGEFORNIIA FOR THE LAST 25 YEARS.

DOWN WITH ARIZONA. UP WITH GOUGEZONA.
    Ed. ellipsis.
