LAVERKIN — LaVerkin Police were dispatched to a home at 9:45 p.m. on Monday for possible drug possession, but found more than initially suspected.
The call specified 154 West 500 North, Unit 2, in LaVerkin. In the unit, the police found Erin Cox, 33, and Jaycee Stewart, 22, LaVerkin Detective Travis Romney said. Cox was immediately arrested for possession of methamphetamine and a drug paraphernalia charge. Cox was checked into Washington County’s Purgatory Correctional Facility at 10:17 p.m. and her charges carry a bail that was listed at $11,943.
Stewart was intoxicated but not under the influence of any other drugs and was allowed to return home, Romney said. At home, according to the probable cause statement filed in connection with the arrest, Stewart said he drank an entire bottle of rum and passed out. While Cox was being booked into jail, the LaVerkin police were then called by Stewart’s wife, Tayler Stewart, and dispatched to a family fight between the two at the same address. The wife initially thought Stewart and Cox were having an affair, Romney said, and went through Stewart’s phone for proof of the supposed affair and instead found child pornography.
The wife woke up Stewart and they fought Stewart said, as related in the probable cause statement. Then the wife said that Stewart assaulted her, started punching the walls and broke and cracked a window which cut his hand, Romney said. Then, Stewart said he went outside because he had “enough of her yelling” and got into his truck.
LaVerkin Police were able to stop Stewart before he could leave the complex. Stewart was bleeding and could barely stand, Romney said. At the jail, his blood alcohol level was found to be .195 on the intoxilyzer, the probable cause statement said.
In the home, Stewart had two children who were awake during the incident, Romney said. The child pornography found was of very young children, he said, but were not of Stewart’s own children.
Stewart was arrested at 12:24 a.m. on Tuesday for a DUI, sexual exploitation of a minor, domestic violence in the presence of two children, criminal mischief and assault. Stewart is being held at Purgatory. His charges carry a bail listed at $16,720.
Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
