ST. GEORGE – The LiVe Well Health Expo will be held Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Dixie Regional Health & Performance Center at 652 S. Medical Center Drive, east of the River Road hospital facility.

“There is no admission charge for the expo, although some of the screenings do have a small fee to cover the cost of testing,” expo event coordinator, Caitlyn Brooksby, said. “The expo is an opportunity for families, and individuals alike, to discover more about their health.”

To help keep lines down the day of the event, fees for the blood tests may be paid by cash, check or credit at the hospital cashier’s office at the River Road campus on weekdays prior to the expo during regular business hours.

Many family-friendly services are part of the expo including the Teddy Bear Clinic, which will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the lower level of the Health & Performance Center. There will also be a Wii Fit, a bounce house, and many other child-friendly activities. A car seat check, conducted by the Southwest Utah Public Health Department, will be offered in the parking lot.

The LiVe Well Bike Rodeo, sponsored by the LiVe Well Cycling Club will also be held in the parking lot. The LiVe Well Cycling Club is a new club in the St. George Area, with a great reputation of service and fitness in northern Utah. The bike rodeo will begin at 10 a.m. and free youth helmets will be given away to the first 100 participants.

Other screenings and assessments that will be administered by professionals at the expo include:

  • A lipid panel/cholesterol breakdown – fast for at least eight hours prior if you plan to take the screening, $26
  • A body composition analysis, blood pressure and blood glucose testing, complete metabolic profile, also a $26 fee.
  • Colorectal kits, $3 fee
  • Foot and ankle screening, oximetry reading, painful joint screening (including arthritis), nutritional counseling, osteoporosis education, dizziness testing, hearing testing, and glaucoma checks.

Also available will be a prostate-specific antigen, or PSA, blood test, for a $20 additional fee; RESEP Clinic counsel for Downwinders, skin cancer screening, stroke assessment, wound consultations and more.

Other informational booths include fertility clinic, mammography, and sports medicine. There will be screenings and information for attendees of all ages.

This year, people can get medication interaction checks at the LiVe Well Learning Hub located on the first level. Individuals can bring in the name of their medications and Pamella Asquith, Medical Librarian and Community Health Information Specialist, will run the check through a database.

“If a person takes certain medications, it may increase or decrease the potency of another one and this limits the clinical usage of a medication,” said Asquith. “Running a drug interaction check will compare medication to medication as well as the interactions with food and alcohol.”

Asquith will also be one of the presenters the day of the expo. There will be a number of experts speaking on health topics including: sleep apnea, exercise 101, evaluating health information on the Internet and more. Rounding out the lectures will be a healthy cooking demonstration with recipes and samples. Lectures will begin at 9 a.m. in the LiVe Well Learning Hub.

“The LiVe Well Health Expo would not be possible without the dedicated professionals, many of whom volunteer their time to provide the screenings,” said Brooksby. “These good people dedicate their time and talents and we’re excited the community can benefit from their service.”
