BEAVER DAM, Ariz. – The first 2014 Beaver Dam Rodeo was held Saturday at the AZ Strip Riders Club Arena at 100 Mitchell Drive, in Beaver Dam, Ariz.
Featured at the rodeo was equine gymkhana – a horseback riding event, often emphasizing children’s participation, consisting of speed pattern racing and timed games for riders on horse – where “having fun is a must” and all ages and riding abilities are welcome.
“This club was put together for the kids to learn about the sport and have good sportsmanship,” said Brandy Luscomb, AZ Strip Riders Club board member. “It’s not about who is better or fast here … it’s about having fun.”
There were about 50 entries on Saturday, with many of the riders being from Las Vegas.
At the end of the year the organization donates a saddle and other gifts to the points leader of the rodeo.
The rodeo will continue every month until the summer when they will head into Utah, resuming again in the fall. the events are free for spectators.
A membership is required for individuals to participate in the events and membership forms must be signed and notarized no later than the second event to be able to participate. Membership is $10 per person or $35 for a family living in the same house. Member event participation fees are $5 each with a $3 arena fee per person.
